It’s March 6th, and aside from being 🍪Oreo Cookie Day, it is a day we celebrate and acknowledge the dresses in our lives. It is a day to pause and gently run your hands through each dress you own. Think about how you got them and how they make you feel when you wear them.
Let’s back up a bit. What exactly are dresses?

A dress is a one-piece garment (single clothing) worn by females.

It is made up of two parts:
- Bodice: The upper part of a dress that fits around the torso. It can be sleeveless, have short or long sleeves, and come in various necklines (e.g., round, V-neck, square).
- Skirt: the bottom part of a dress that covers the legs. Skirts can vary greatly in length, from mini (above the knee) to maxi (full-length).
Before we go on, a quick one: do you have a favorite dress? If you’re like me, who doesn’t? I believe that someday we’ll have one.
There are a variety of dresses, from A-line to swing dresses, tunics, and sheaths; princess dresses; tent dresses; bodycon dresses; strapless dresses; or empire waists. National Dress Day is here to celebrate them all.
What’s the whole buzz about National Dress Day?

National Dress Day was founded in 2016 by fashion and dress designer Ashley Lauren Kerr (the fine lady above) “as a way to relieve and celebrate our dearest dress memories.” It is a day to be focused on empowering women to celebrate their femininity and cherish memories of wearing dresses because it’s the women and their stories behind the dresses that make this day so special. How do you celebrate this special day, then?
5 simple ways to celebrate National Dress Day
Yes, I know. You probably do not see the need to celebrate this day. Allow me to help you. Here are some really simple ideas to get the most out of this day:
Wear your favorite 👗dress.
You know that dress that makes you smile? Yes, that one, exactly. Put it on today. If you have an inflexible work outfit, wear it after work. On the flip side, if you have the complete opportunity to freestyle your work outfit; show up in your one of your favorites.
🛍 Get yourself a new dress.
You’ve probably noticed that your life is made up of more uniform jeans, t-shirts, yoga pants, and hoodies, or that your dresses are either out of fashion or not to your fit. All this may soon make you forget how it feels to get all dressed up. Today is a great day to remember and create new memories. So pick up your phone and place an order for that dress that has been in your cart for a while now. As you head home today, you can also stop by and get yourself a dress. You deserve it.
Watch a dress-related (or fashion-related) movie📽.
To this point, I have curated some top-notch movies you can watch to unwind from the day and be in the mood for celebrating the day:
- The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
- The Dressmaker (2015)
- Phantom Thread (2017)
- Cruella (2021)
Follow National Dress Day on social media📱.
National Dress Day has its own hashtag (#NationalDressDay) and is a fun way to share your own photos of you in dresses and get inspired. Not sure what styles have been trending lately? This is a good way to find out; you just might find something that speaks to your personal style.
Conclusion
Dresses are a must-have for you, my dear ladies. If you don’t have one, get one; if you do, experiment with new styles. Either way, we all at JIN SIGNATURE wish you a beautiful dress day and as we approach International Women’s Day, let us remember that dresses won’t change the world but the women who wear them will.
